ACTIVITIES
in
Characterization and Quantification
of the Natural Resources and Environment
Complex characterization and quantification/measurement of the nation-wide soil resources;
Soil classification;
Research on the main pedological processes (e.g. clay migration, spodification);
Mineralogical research on the main soil types;
Micromorphological research on the main soil types;
Application and development of simulation models for crop growth, mass and energy transfer in agricultural system;
Elaboration of indicators and parameters in order to appreciate the loading degree of soils with inorganic and organic pollutants;
Evaluation of pollutants accumulation level in vegetables and fruits from areas severely polluted by industrial emissions or as a result of applying intensive agricultural technologies;
Establishing the relationships between pedo-geochemical background and the appearance of disturbance in plants and animals;
Application and development of digital terrain models integrated with simulation models at the watershed level;
Research on soil compaction, crusting and seedbed quality;
Estimation of traficability and workability using basic soil physical parameters;
Indirect methods for the estimation of pedotransfer functions using standard soil survey data;
Fractal analysis of soils and landscape;
Land potential for rainfed and irrigated crop production;
