Field of activity:

Databases on natural soil/land resources and environment (design, implementation and operating):

Soil profiles (general, morphological, and analytical - physical and chemical - data,

including on groundwater),

Land units (1:10,000, 1:50,000, 1:1,000,000; soil, relief, hydrology, climate;

land suitability for 24 crops and land uses, rainfed and irrigated, etc.),

Yearly monitoring of the main quality parameters of the soils (district/nation-wide level),

Environment standards;

Geographical information systems for national soil/land resources and environment (nation-wide at 1:1,000,000 and 1:200,000 scale; pilot areas at 1:10,000 scale); Spatial data processing, including remote sensing data;

Application and development of simulation models (soil processes, crop growth, etc.);

Application and development of digital terrain models integrated with simulation models;

Expert systems and decision support systems for sustainable land evaluation/management (land evaluation, land use planning, technological recommendations, etc.);

Computerized systems for evaluation of soil physical properties and soil requirements for tillage systems;

Computerized systems for diagnosis of nutrient-caused disorders in plants and recommendations for their recovery;

Development of other data processing applications on soil/land resources and environment;

Statistical processing of data;
Land evaluation;
Information for land reform and sustainable land use planning; Rural development;
Documentary/information databases on agriculture/environment;
Providing information services for the fields of agriculture (including food, fisheries and forestry) and environment; ICPA Computing Centre is acting as the Romanian AGRIS/CARIS Centre in the FAO's AGRIS/CARIS network;
Technical assistance and training on development of databases, GIS, expert systems, decision support systems, simulation/optimization models, statistical data processing, installation and use of general-purpose software, computerized information/documentation, etc.
